- ➤ Birmingham will host the Southbound Food Festival from September 19 to 28 with 100 chefs over two weekends at its downtown location around Pepper Place and Sloss Furnaces—tickets and a full schedule will be available on July 7. - ➤ Birmingham tourism brought in $2.57B in 2024 with over 4 million overnight visitors and helped support more than 51,000 jobs along with generating $302 million in tax revenue. - ➤ A federal panel ruled on May 8 that Alabama's 2023 congressional redistricting map diluted the voting power of Black residents and violated the Voting Rights Act, permanently blocking its use. State officials have not set next steps as a hearing is scheduled to decide if future maps will need federal preclearance + the decision follows a long legal battle over fair voting representation. - ➤ A three-judge federal panel ruled on Thursday that Alabama's 2023 congressional map violated the Voting Rights Act and the Constitution, and a legal fight over redistricting continues as the state defends its map.
