  • Birmingham community gathered to honor Officer Marlon Moore—who died last week in a tragic motorcycle crash on I-59 North—and celebrated his selfless service at a memorial attended by fellow officers, family, and friends.  ABC 33/40

  • Birmingham’s Small Business Week runs from May 4 until May 10 and supports local entrepreneur Emondre Johnson, owner of The Bark Park, who won the 2023 pitch competition and opened a brick-and-mortar on Montevallo Road offering pet daycare, boarding, grooming and photography. Johnson’s win — local officials say it shows how the event fuels small business growth — has boosted his career and proven the impact of city support.  Yellowhammer News
  • Trader Joe's will open a new store in Hoover on May 14 with a ribbon cutting at 9:00 a.m.—store Captain Jason Dew and his team will lead the ceremony—and it will be the third Trader Joe's in Alabama, located on Montgomery Highway across from Riverchase Galleria.  Bham Now

CRIME NEWS

  • 19-year-old Eddie Jordan Jr.—a suspect linked to a Tarrant murder on January 22 and a fatal shooting on February 5—escaped custody on April 25 after receiving treatment at UAB Hospital but was recaptured in west Alabama by U.S. Marshals and local police and is now held at Jefferson County Jail.  CBS 42

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Birmingham leaders have filed a lawsuit in federal court against Alabama over Senate Bill 330 that changes the water board and may lead to higher sewer bills. City officials said the law lets elected officials double dip while the City Council approved a $1 purchase of the water system and hired counsel—steps taken to protect ratepayers and keep local oversight intact.  ABC 33/40
