- ➤ Brady Smith, 23, a Utility Line Construction Services worker, was seriously injured with a broken spine when a large tree—uprooted by overnight storms—fell on a utility truck during power line repairs on Birmingham’s Diaper Row, and his coworker Jeffrey Scott Duffie died in the incident. AL.com
- ➤ A house fire broke out in the 500 block of North Drive (near Roebuck Springs) at 8:15 a.m. today and firefighters quickly controlled the blaze with no injuries; investigators are checking the cause. ABC 33/40

- ➤ Live Nation will host a three-day hiring event at the Stadium Club — from 4:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m. on May 8 and 9, and from 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. on May 17 — to fill over 300 part-time positions at the new Coca-Cola Amphitheater. The amphitheater will open for its first show on June 22. 6 WBRC News

Nonprofit leader Sheree Kennon—who founded What About Us after her son was killed in 2021—and national director Aswad Thomas are working with state officials to ease the application process as claims increase.
