- ➤ The Greater Birmingham Humane Society announced that they moved the Pell City Animal Care and Control facility to priority-one status to repair the building and train staff after a 30-day assessment in April. - ➤ Lawmakers are considering a bill to lower the grocery sales tax to 2% before the legislative session ends—this move bypasses revenue safeguards for education. They are also reviewing proposals to help retirees and low-income citizens and a police immunity measure that will be debated next week. WBHM
- ➤ Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said on Wednesday that the city demolished 126 buildings this year to clear blight in neighborhoods ahead of upcoming elections. City officials reported that contractors will soon demolish nearly 580 condemned properties as part of a plan to boost public safety and revitalize areas — a move challenged by budget limits and a shrinking workforce.
