- ➤ Birmingham police are coordinating with UAB police—after murder suspect Eddie Jordan Jr. escaped from UAB Hospital nearly a week ago—to review procedures and develop a prisoner evaluation protocol to keep the community safe. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Several high-profile murder suspects appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday facing charges for robbery, murder-for-hire, and capital murder in cases tied to Birmingham killings—Demarco Beck, Nyquan Lollar, Chrishawn McLemore-Bruce and Hatarius Woods all pleaded not guilty as the court reviewed standard pretrial procedures. - ➤ West Birmingham has made progress on a planned 22-mile loop that will feature a 4.5-mile trail built on a former railroad corridor behind the Five Points West Library – the city council approved buying the corridor from CSX for walking, running and biking. The project has $4 million in federal funds and $1.1 million from the city – local groups like Alchemy Running Crew and Freshwater Land Trust support the plan. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway launched the IGNITE program yesterday to help inmates earn job training and education—making the county the 25th site nationally and fourth in Alabama while partnering with Lawson State and local groups to support reentry. WVTM 13
- ➤ The City of Birmingham has demolished 126 abandoned structures so far in 2025 & is following a required legal process to remove burned properties while investigating at least 100 more blighted sites.
