  • The Homewood Public Library will host the Friends Bookstore Bag Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at 1721 Oxmoor Road — all proceeds benefit library programs and services.  6 WBRC News
  • Yesterday, Cordova held a community day of service to mark 15 years since the tornadoes, featuring donuts and coffee at 8 a.m., a 9 a.m. prayer, a tree planting at Indian Head Mill Park at 10 a.m., and a blood drive at city hall (9 a.m.-3 p.m.).  WVTM 13

  • Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee is now open at Cortland Vesta on Highland Ave in Five Points South and runs Mon-Sat from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will host an official grand opening in mid-May and plans to add lunch items & extend its hours.  Bham Now

  • Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin announced the city provided $200,000 in micro-grants to 14 local groups for violence prevention work on Monday morning at City Hall—funding programs like RESTORE that offer youth intervention, family stabilization and wraparound services, officials said.  The Birmingham Times

  • UAB researchers launched DiaClue, a free web-based tool to classify diabetes into five subtypes for more personalized treatment.
