  • Tarrant police said that 19-year-old Eddie Jordan, accused of fatally shooting 36-year-old Buford White on January 22, escaped custody from UAB Hospital Wednesday night—he was in the care of Birmingham police when the incident occurred.  CBS 42

  • Gov. Kay Ivey announced on Thursday two grants for Birmingham and Jefferson County — with Birmingham set to get $100K to update outdated equipment and Jefferson County poised to receive over $137K for new tools that trace firearms and ballistic evidence — as part of the federal Project Safe Neighborhoods program.  6 WBRC News
  • The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is looking for any family of 86-year-old Margaret Hall Hayes, who died at Oak Knoll Health and Rehabilitation Center on March 30 in Brookside. Officials said Hayes reportedly had no children and urged anyone with information to call 205-930-3603.  CBS 42
  • The Senate passed an amended bill that changes how Birmingham Water Works is governed—adding two new board appointments—after long negotiations on Thursday. The bill now moves to the House for further review.  1819 News
