- ➤ On Easter night, a domestic dispute turned deadly when a woman allegedly ran over 27-year-old Mickese James Bostic on the 700 block of Lisa Lane during a birthday party—children were in the vehicle and police detained the suspect as the investigation continues. ABC 33/40
- ➤ A Birmingham woman, Shatice Jackson, was charged with capital murder after she ran over 27-year-old Mickese Bostic during a domestic dispute at a birthday party and Easter celebration Sunday night (no children were injured). CBS 42
- ➤ A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train on Sunday night in Bessemer when 49-year-old Cedric Lamar Dean was hit around 10:45 p.m. on the 5500 block of Avenue A — the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. CBS 42

- ➤ Lee Shook of Create Birmingham is organizing the Sun Ra Festival to honor the legendary jazz musician with four days of films, art, music, and live shows at local venues starting May 21. - ➤ The Jefferson County Board of Education announced it is accepting Majority-to-Minority transfer applications for K-12 students for the 2025-2026 school year, with the window having opened on March 15 and running until June 2. - ➤ Homewood City Council is expanding Shades Creek Greenway, a trail that now serves 120,000 to 150,000 users each year, by adding a new 1.4 mi section and planning a final phase to cross Lakeshore Drive and reach West Homewood Park. The expansion is part of the Red Rock Action Plan which aims to create 36 mi of connecting trail throughout Greater Birmingham — officials say the project supports healthy living and preserves essential green space. - ➤ Birmingham Water Works Board chairwoman Tereshia Huffman faces an ethics complaint alleging she failed to disclose family ties that led to $40,000 in grants—a filing that covers events from 2023 and 2024. The complaint claims conflicts of interest and breaches of board policy amid a proposal to restructure the board, and details will be addressed today at the next meeting—a statement Huffman denies.
