  • A man was killed when a freight train struck him in the 5500 block of Avenue A at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday—he was pronounced dead just minutes later at 10:52 p.m.  6 WBRC News

CRIME NEWS

  • Birmingham Police said a woman intentionally drove her car into a man (resulting in his death) in a fatal incident.  6 WBRC News
  • A 22-year-old Christian Machado—who is from Fresno—was arrested on April 18th at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport when police found 24 pounds of packaged marijuana—valued at $163,860—stashed in his suitcase; he faces trafficking charges and is scheduled to appear in court today.  AL.com
  • Birmingham Police said a man was killed on Sunday night in the 700 block of Lisa Lane after a domestic dispute when a woman intentionally ran him over—officers found him pinned between a home and a vehicle and later arrested the suspect amid reports that children witnessed the incident.  6 WBRC News
  • Birmingham Police investigated a homicide after a woman intentionally ran over Mickese James Bostic during an Easter family gathering that turned violent — he was found pinned between a vehicle and a home in the 700 block of Lisa Lane.  6 WBRC News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A GasBuddy survey showed that Birmingham gas prices dropped 6.6 cents per gallon in the past week to average $2.72, though they were still 1.1 cents higher than a month ago. The survey of 550 stations found the lowest price was $2.46 and the highest was $3.09 — a 63-cent spread — as national prices also fell this week.  ABC 33/40
  • Alabama’s Commerce Department and local partners are going to Battery Show South in Atlanta this week to show off the state's work in batteries and electric vehicles. The group will highlight strengths in car making and job training (with projects like a Mercedes-Benz battery plant and an EV Technology Center near Decatur) to attract more business.  Yellowhammer News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee approved SB324, a bill that would expand the Board of Pardons and Paroles from three to five members and require Senate confirmation of appointments after lawmakers said delays in updating parole guidelines raised concerns. The proposal sets new parole reconsideration timelines and will go to the full Senate for consideration before the session ends in eight legislative days (vote count was 8 to 3).  Yellowhammer News

  • At UAB Eye Care, 9-month-old Charlie Pitts received glasses after a routine checkup found he had severe farsightedness—his eyes measured +9.00 D while most babies are near +2.00 D.
