ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency identified Joey M. Broom, 58, of Altoona, as the man killed at 7:03 a.m. on early Wednesday during the Major League Fishing tournament on Lewis Smith Lake—his vessel was struck by a Nitro bass boat, and local agencies responded to several injuries near Miller Flats.  1819 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Jefferson County Judge Alaric May dismissed defamation charges against activist Chuck Winborn (member of the Tarrant Crime Commission) after his Tuesday night arrest when he was accused of defaming a former police officer on Facebook.  AL.com
  • The Tarrant Police Department is asking for help to locate two armed and dangerous 19-year-old suspects—Eddie Jordan Jr. from Eutaw and Javaris Russell Jr. of Birmingham—linked to the fatal shooting of Buford White, who was killed January 22 while returning home with a pizza.  ABC 33/40
  • On April 16, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office agents executed a search warrant in the 2000 block of Avenue B in Ensley and arrested suspect Lamar Kevontay Slaughter III, aged 25, seizing 4.43 pounds of methamphetamine, 10.8 grams of fentanyl, 6.1 grams of marijuana, two AR15 pistols, a Glock handgun with an automatic conversion device called Switch, another Glock pistol, an Emperor Arms AR, and $3,595 in cash; he now faces drug trafficking charges and is held at jail without bond.  ABC 33/40
  • Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said the department will inspect nightclubs and other late-night venues for proper licenses and security plans — a move prompted by a mass shooting last July that left four dead and ten injured — with any establishment lacking documentation to be shut down immediately.  ABC 33/40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport announced a parking modernization plan to ease congestion as traffic grows, adding a parking guidance system, removing some spots for rental cars, and launching automated payment systems with new rates starting July 1. The update also ends the commuter parking program—once giving discounted rates to some airline employees—on December 31.  ABC 33/40
