- ➤ Freshwater Land Trust launched an updated Red Rock Trail System interactive map that adds 15 miles of new Hoover trails and highlights planned expansions across Jefferson County. - ➤ After a fatal house fire claimed three lives in a home without a working smoke detector, Birmingham Fire and Rescue is providing free installations and urging residents to test detectors monthly and replace batteries every six months (over 60 requests were already made in the past 24 hours). 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Buffalo Rock Company, a local soft drink maker known for its ginger ale, is celebrating its 125th anniversary by opening a new headquarters — off Lakeshore Parkway — to expand manufacturing capabilities. - ➤ Fashion designer Perry Varner launches BirmingHIM Men’s Fashion Week from Wednesday, April 29 to Sunday, May 3 at multiple Birmingham venues to present fashion shows, panel discussions, health screenings and special ticketed events featuring Mayor Woodfin and local officials. - ➤ Birmingham officials filed a court brief on Sunday saying Central Alabama Water breached state law by stopping fluoride without the required notice and endangering public dental health (the filing cites years of neglected maintenance). - ➤ The FDA announced a recall of a batch of Xanax XR 3-mg tablets (lot 8177156) after tests showed not all tablets dissolved properly. Users who received the medication between Aug. 27, 2024 and May 29, 2025 should stop use and contact their pharmacist or healthcare provider. AL.com

- ➤ State leaders approved a bill last week to let the city form a community land trust that buys land and leases it to low income families, keeping houses affordable for future buyers.
