- ➤ Alabama veterans officials and Gov. Kay Ivey honored 106-year-old WWII veteran Joseph Anthony Rumore today for his service and community spirit. Born in Bessemer (his hometown), Rumore served as a first lieutenant at Camp Shelby and remains a lasting symbol of quiet strength. ABC 33/40

- ➤ A deadly house fire early Apr. 15 claimed the lives of Ramsay High senior Laila Hicks and her parents at their home on Avenue K and Ensley in Green Acres, leaving the school community mourning as counselors & students began to cope with the loss. WVTM 13

- ➤ UAB researchers have developed new devices for kidney care, including Zorro-Flow, a noninvasive urine collection device for neonates, and ScopeAssist, which stabilizes ureteroscopy, as part of innovations expected to improve diagnosis and treatment of kidney stones (a challenge for many). - ➤ UAB is leading a national study to test if personalized genetic risk information can help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
