  • Hoover’s Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue rescued 91 cats from a Shelby County shed after their owner was evicted and the landlord set a removal deadline of April 5; the group now seeks adopters and foster partners to care for 55 cats in temporary homes.  AL.com
  • Team WBRC competed in the Great Birmingham Bake Off on Saturday, April 4 at a local nonprofit event hosted by Workshops Empowerment Inc, where they baked almond vanilla cake pops to support training & employment programs. The fundraiser brought the community together.  6 WBRC News

  • Treats So Sweet owner Jermeria Johnson said she paid over $120 last week to fuel her truck—nearly double her usual $70 cost—as state gas now averages $3.83 amid a war-related surge. She is running extra days to absorb costs without raising prices, though a price hike may come if fuel prices do not drop by summer.  WVTM 13

  • Three Alabama teens were named 2026 APT Young Heroes after overcoming serious personal and health challenges, and each will receive a $10,000 scholarship for academic success, leadership and community service.  Yellowhammer News
  • Birmingham City Schools officials and Ed Farm cut the ribbon on The Rise at Hayes K-8, a 6,000 sqft tech-enabled hub featuring a media center and computer lab for video production. The space is designed to boost hands-on learning and improve digital literacy for students.  The Birmingham Times

  • Alabama State Parks has added new glamping tents at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham to meet growing demand for comfortable outdoor stays (amenities include beds, electricity, and climate control), with glamping now available at six state park locations statewide.  Yellowhammer News
