- ➤ Birmingham’s new “Home for All” micro-shelter village opened at Faith Chapel Care Center when longtime unsheltered resident Michael Tolliver became its first occupant. - ➤ UAB hosts the Community Engaged Scholarship Showcase themed Scholarship with a Purpose on Wednesday, Apr. 8 from 8:30 a.m. - noon at Lister Hill Library. - ➤ Katherine Robertson, chief counsel to the Attorney General and candidate, said Alabama should end roughly 40 school desegregation orders (mandates that certify teacher and student racial diversity) to reduce legal burdens and allow schools more flexibility. Yellowhammer News

- ➤ UAB’s School of Nursing launched a nurse-led Moms and Kids Mobile Health Clinic that now offers prenatal, pediatric and behavioral health services across 17 rural counties. - ➤ NIOSH will offer free black lung screenings to coal miners using a mobile unit at stops in Sumiton, Bessemer, Berry, Brookwood, Adger and Tuscaloosa from Apr. 9 to Apr. 14. Screenings last about 30 minutes and include chest x-rays, blood pressure and breathing tests, and questionnaires (appointments recommended). 6 WBRC News
- ➤ UAB’s Department of Family and Community Medicine climbed to No. 13 nationally in NIH funding in the new Blue Ridge Rankings, reflecting a four-year surge in research growth.
