- ➤ The Great Birmingham Bake Off 2025 will be held at Cahaba Brewing Company on April 5 from 2—4 PM. Attendees will sample sweet treats, vote for the People’s Choice Award, and support the local nonprofit WE Inc. Junior Board that trains workers for food service jobs. Bham Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 25, police arrested 30-year-old Tarrence Jennings after a robbery and shooting that injured a local man — the victim later named Jennings as the suspect and officers found him barricaded in an apartment complex, booking him on an outstanding domestic violence warrant. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Inmate Shaquille James Staples, 31, died Monday after a medical event at Jefferson County Jail — he was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m. — and the cause of his death is under investigation. AL.com
- ➤ On March 25th, Birmingham police arrested three suspects — 18-year-old Cam'Ron Frost, 18-year-old Jaylen Frost and 22-year-old Taquan Patterson — on capital murder charges for the November 21st double homicide of Camry Enrieque Lee and Michael Allen Carroll near an abandoned house, and they are held without bond at Jefferson County Jail. - ➤ The Airing of the Quilts Festival Awareness Tour will visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute on Saturday, March 29—with events running from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.—to feature handmade quilts and live quilting demonstrations that showcase the Gee’s Bend quilting tradition. - ➤ Victoria Ordonez, a young cancer survivor who beat sarcoma five years ago, was surprised on Wednesday morning with a $10,000 scholarship from a partnership between Jersey Mike's and Cancer for College to attend UAB medical school this fall — she plans to become an oncologist to help others like her. - ➤ On March 20, the Alabama House passed a school safety bill that will require all public schools to install a mobile emergency response system by 2030.
