- ➤ Birmingham homeowners and community partners will join HomeWise Expo on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Bill Harris Arena from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to connect with experts on home repairs, insurance costs, and clear titles—key steps to keep homes safe and neighborhoods strong. The Birmingham Times
- ➤ Birmingham will host its first Spring Festival at Railroad Park on March 29 from 1-4 p.m. and the free, family-friendly event features an Easter egg scavenger hunt, DJ, food trucks, face painting, and more; road closures on First Avenue South (14th-18th Streets) start March 28. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Today, Birmingham launches its #StrongHer 2026 campaign (Golden Girls edition) that honors local women over 60 for their longstanding contributions to education, community service and leadership. The initiative spotlights nine women who continue to shape everyday life. The Birmingham Times
- ➤ Chef Rob McDaniel — a James Beard Award semifinalist — runs two Birmingham restaurants including Bayonet, which he opened during the COVID-19 pandemic after launching his culinary career in Haleyville and Auburn; he earned his seventh nomination with finalists to be announced on March 31 and winners recognized on June 15. - ➤ This summer, eligible school-age children automatically enrolled in the Alabama SUN Bucks program will receive a one-time $120 grocery benefits card (usable at grocery stores and online retailers). The program begins sending benefits in June and families must apply by August 15 if not automatically enrolled. The Birmingham Times
- ➤ City officials announced a $3.8M project to transform 41st Street in Avondale, with construction set to begin in May and improvements including wider sidewalks and better lighting (a long-awaited upgrade to boost local access). ABC 33/40
- ➤ Governor Ivey will lower flags statewide from sunrise to sunset on Monday, March 30 to honor fallen Air Force members from Sumpter Smith Joint Air National Guard Base in Birmingham (funeral services will honor Major Klinner). ABC 33/40
- ➤ Central Alabama Water announced it would stop adding fluoride on March 20, but records show three filter plants had been inactive since January 2023 to March 2024 + local lawmakers and a county commissioner plan to investigate if Birmingham residents have been charged for undelivered service.
