  • Pinson city council plans to explore a replacement for the Alabama Butterbean Festival after the Clay Chamber of Commerce canceled it amid a funding dispute. Meetings are set for Clay on March 24 and Pinson on March 26 to discuss next steps.  AL.com
  • The Birmingham Bulls honored military service members and first responders Friday night at the Pelham Civic Complex during the America 250 celebration — a partnership with America 250 Alabama, American Village, and the city of Pelham.  6 WBRC News
  • The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club hosted its 19th annual Blessing of the Bikes at the American Legion this weekend + local pastors offered prayers for safe riding while funds raised supported a scholarship honoring Sgt. Joseph Hill.  WVTM 13

  • Chick-Fil-A in Roebuck will reopen Tuesday with a new Mobile Thru lane after months of renovation that began when the store closed in June for demolition; the upgrade — using the adjacent Walgreens parking lot purchased in 2024 — will ease drive-through delays.  AL.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Central Alabama Water ended adding supplemental fluoride because of aging equipment, rising costs + safety concerns. The utility notified state regulators and will continue testing to ensure safe and reliable drinking water.  The Birmingham Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Following the cancellation of the 20-year Alabama Butterbean Festival, Pinson City Council voted Friday to authorize Mayor Hoyt Sanders to explore a new Main Street October Festival (a replacement for the longstanding event) with a special meeting set for Thursday to update plans.  WVTM 13
  • Birmingham leaders plan to revive contaminated industrial sites with a $400,000 federal grant to test up to seven brownfield properties. The council approved an agreement with United Consulting Group — which will work for three years and nine months to lay the groundwork for new business and tax revenue.  WVTM 13
  • Highway 280 is closed at Pump House Road for a scheduled bridge demolition — crews work to remove the old structure, and motorists should use detour routes until the project is complete.  6 WBRC News
