  • The community is supporting the families of three fallen airmen who died when their KC-135 crashed in Iraq while serving with the local 99th Air Refueling Squadron. Retired Air Force Major Janie Sullivan is coordinating donations and care packages via a UPS mailbox in Trussville (459 Main Street, Suite 101‑101).  6 WBRC News

  • The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will perform a live screening of 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' with John Williams’ score at BJCC Concert Hall on April 10 and 11 at 7 PM — tickets are priced from $44.50 to $101.50 with a buy-three-get-one-free offer.  Bham Now
  • Theatre UAB will present Ken Ludwig’s Murder on the Orient Express adaptation at the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center from Mar. 25 to Mar. 29. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. on Mar. 25-28 and 2 p.m. on Mar. 29 — ticket prices range from $10 to $20.  6 WBRC News
  • The Every Body Blooms fashion show focusing on disability will take place Thursday, April 2, at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center in the Sirote Theatre at 1200 10th Ave. South. It is free with registration required and runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.)  University of Alabama at Birmingham

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ruffner Mountain Nature Center has reopened after renovations, adding three new wildlife ambassadors and a refurbished treetop patio that was closed since 2018. The center is hosting a native plant sale on Saturdays in April and summer camp field trips starting in June.  Bham Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ALDOT will close all US-280 lanes at Pump House Road starting tonight at 11:00 p.m. until March 23 at 6:00 a.m. as part of a project to widen the highway from Lakeshore Parkway to I-459 — eastbound lanes stay closed until Monday while westbound lanes open from 5 a.m. daily.  Bham Now
  • Alabama senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville attended a dignified transfer of six fallen servicemembers at Dover Air Force Base this week. Among those honored were three Alabamians, including Major Alex Klinner — an Auburn graduate from Trussville whose service spanned four deployments.  Yellowhammer News

  • Crestline Pet Care in Mountain Brook has extended its urgent care hours to 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Friday—helping families get immediate assistance when pets swallow harmful items. The clinic can stabilize pets and arrange transfer to their regular veterinarian if needed.  6 WBRC News

  • Lakeshore Foundation announced a campaign to raise 3 million to help Birmingham’s three national Paralympic teams prepare for LA28, including funding for high-performance plans, training camps + travel.
