ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Birmingham-based major and father died on Thursday when the US military refueling aircraft he was aboard crashed over western Iraq while supporting operations against Iran; officials confirmed no hostile fire was involved.  WBHM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Birmingham increased nearly 40 cents over the past week, reaching an average of $3.40 per gallon. Local stations range from $2.89 (the lowest) to $3.89 (the highest), while nearby areas also saw similar increases as reported by GasBuddy.  ABC 33/40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson County EMA is on standby to activate its emergency operations center as severe weather with winds up to 70 mph is expected tonight across parts of the region. Residents are advised to charge devices and have alert tools ready plus locate nearby storm shelters.  WVTM 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Costco has recalled Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze due to a possible Salmonella issue flagged by an ingredient supplier. The meals, sold from March 2 to March 13 with sell-by dates up to March 16, should be returned for a refund (no illnesses reported).  WVTM 13
