  • Birmingham’s spring festival season kicks off with events from the Chili Cook-Off at Liberty Park on Sat, Mar. 7 to the vibrant Holi Festival at the Museum on Apr. 11, featuring food, live music & fun for all ages. The lineup lists 28 events highlighting art, food & family joy.  Bham Now
  • Birmingham will host a free screening and panel discussion of the Oscar-nominated film The Alabama Solution on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Carver Theatre.   • Bare Hands will host its ninth annual Birmingham Taco Fest on Sunday, May 17 (1:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.) at Sloss Furnaces. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers announced plans to transform the nearly 200-acre Birmingham-Southern campus into a Coast Guard training facility, with the deal expected to close in the next month or two. The project is predicted to bring over 1000 jobs and revitalize the west side area (including Bush Hills and College Hills neighborhoods).  WVTM 13
  • The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District has finished the first two phases of a $30M Cooper Green Homes project to update 118 units for low-income families. The project is on schedule and will add new communal areas by early 2027 in the West End.  Bham Now
  • The U.S. Coast Guard will transform the former Birmingham-Southern College campus into a training center later this summer, adding 1,000 jobs, while the United Methodist Center moves to a new building along the U.S. 280 corridor in North Shelby County.  AL.com

  • GP6 Wellness LLC is building Birmingham’s first medical cannabis dispensary at 541 Cahaba Park Circle + it is set to open in spring, though construction delays could push the launch to summer.  Bham Now
  • A UAB clinical trial shows that a new two-drug immunotherapy may keep multiple myeloma from getting worse, with nearly 83 percent of patients showing no cancer growth at three years. The FDA approved the treatment on March 5 — UAB plans trials to test if it may cure more patients.  University of Alabama at Birmingham
