  • A total lunar eclipse is set to light up Birmingham early Tuesday morning. The eclipse will begin with a partial phase at 3:50 a.m. + total eclipse at 5:04 a.m., peak at 5:33 a.m. and end at 6:15 a.m. while mid-50s temperatures keep viewing comfortable.  WVTM 13
  • Goodwill is launching the BookWorks program to offer reading and learning resources to local residents today. Additional details on locations and schedules will be released soon (check local updates).  6 WBRC News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Winn-Dixie will close its two Birmingham stores later this month as part of a reorganization plan focusing on Florida and Georgia. The Inverness Corners and Montevallo Rd locations will shut on March 21 and March 22.  AL.com
  • Einstein Bros. Bagels opened its first location in Cahaba Heights today at 448 Cahaba Park Circle, offering fresh bagels and breakfast sandwiches from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Customers get a free egg sandwich with any in-bakery purchase + promo code 9080 through March 13.  ABC 33/40

  • La Fête, a French bistro at 2018 Morris Avenue, was named the best French cuisine spot in Alabama by Tasting Table * owner Kristen Hall earned a James Beard nomination last month and the restaurant received Bib Gourmand status in November 2025.  Bham Now
  • Henry Panion III will lead the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and college choirs in a tribute to gospel composer Richard Smallwood on Sunday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the UAB Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center — featuring special guest Maurette Brown Clark and solo violinist Caitlin Edwards celebrating his legacy.  The Birmingham Times

  • Parker High School students in Birmingham may soon have advanced AI training for future jobs as Miles College partners with Studyfetch — a learning-first AI platform — to launch the program.  WVTM 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • UAB Hospital has been named Alabama's top-ranked hospital on Newsweek's (World’s Best Hospitals 2026) list; it ranked No. 59 nationwide and earned recognition for patient experience. The health system spans 113 locations and serves nearly 1.4 million patients annually.  Bham Now
  • Fitt Chick Studios opened Jan. 5 on Narrows Parkway to empower local women through group fitness classes. Certified trainer Stacy Hicks founded the studio after her own fitness journey, and clients say the atmosphere is like a family (featuring battle ropes, free weights, and more).  6 WBRC News
  • A new pediatric intensive care unit opened at Children’s of Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 28, linking intensive and special care for both high and low acuity patients. Officials said the modern unit is designed to improve care and communication for children with complex needs.  6 WBRC News

  • City leaders approved up to $1.5 million in lodging tax incentives so Birmingham can host the international FISE World Series in August. The event will take place at City Walk from Aug. 5 through Aug. 9 and is expected to draw athletes and visitors from around the world.  Yellowhammer News
