- ➤ Family and friends gathered Sunday at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Bessemer to honor what would have been Ke'Torrius (KJ) Starkes Jr.'s fourth birthday, with attendees wearing his favorite blue and releasing blue and green balloons to celebrate his joyful spirit after his tragic death last summer. - ➤ El Gezira Riding Academy in Shelby County will close on Feb. 28 after nearly 40 years of operation due to damage from a Dec. 2023 EF-1 tornado+ co-founder Pamela Ibrahim said she will continue riding lessons at other local barns. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Expert Shannon Greene says early sightings of hummingbirds—three weeks ahead of their usual migration—may signal an early spring, with birds seen across the Gulf Coast (Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and the Carolinas); residents are encouraged to use red feeders with yellow flowers to attract them. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Bob Siemer, a 70-year-old heart disease survivor, underwent a groundbreaking heart procedure at Christ Hospital after multiple open-heart surgeries, and his doctor (Jared Frizzell) used a unique stent and electrocautery method to restore blood flow; he is recovering well and even went hiking one week later.
