- ➤ Jones Valley Teaching Farm and the City of Birmingham awarded 10 urban farming groups $10,000 each from the Urban Farmer Grant Program (funded by ARPA) to help address pandemic-related challenges and boost food access in our community. The Birmingham Times

- ➤ Southbound Food Festival returns to Pepper Place from Sept. 18-27 with a ten-day celebration of local cuisine and culture; programs include a Heritage Dinner and Funk Brunch (tickets launch in July). Bham Now
- ➤ Frank Stitt’s signature Pinot Noir reflected his long friendship with famed winemaker Jim Clendenen, who helped shape California’s wine scene. The wine is available at his restaurants including Bottega and Chez Fonfon and pairs elegantly with a variety of dishes. Bham Now

- ➤ Hosting a Super Bowl party for 10 guests may cost $140 today—a 1.6% increase from last year, according to the Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute. Prices for veggies like cherry tomatoes, celery and cauliflower are up 2 to 4%, while lower costs for wings and avocados suggest a potluck style could be cheaper. WVTM 13

- ➤ The annual UAB Alumni Scholarship Run will take place on Saturday, April 18 at Crestline Village in Mountain Brook, offering 5K, 10K, 1-mile fun run and virtual race options to raise money for student scholarships. - ➤ The University of Alabama at Birmingham is enrolling patients in the BREATHE-3 trial that uses self-expanding nitinol airway scaffolds to treat severe emphysema by reducing lung hyperinflation.
