- ➤ Dr. Mark Sullivan, the Birmingham City Schools superintendent, was named Alabama Education Association Outstanding Superintendent of the Year for 2025–26. He led the district since 2020 with academic improvements & equity efforts that boosted its state Report Card grade. ABC 33/40
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Ivey awarded $4.5 million in grants today to 18 community agencies helping low-income residents with job support, budgeting, and emergency needs. The funding is part of a program aimed at boosting economic stability for local families. ABC 33/40
- ➤ On Tuesday, Hoover Police Department received a $2,000 donation from Southeast Scent Work Alliance to support its K-9 scent work unit (its largest public safety gift from the group). 6 WBRC News

- ➤ At the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference, UAB researchers found that procedures to open narrowed carotid arteries did not improve thinking or memory skills compared with medications and lifestyle changes — a finding that may change how treatment for carotid stenosis is discussed.
