  • Magnolia Soap & Bath is set to open a new location at Vestavia City Center at 790 Montgomery Hwy in March. The Mississippi-based chain was announced by Crawford Square Real Estate Advisors on Jan. 26 and offers hand-poured, plant-based products.  Bham Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • City officials provided $160,000 to Create Birmingham to boost local film and TV production initiatives — the funding will support programming, workshops, and education, including a production assistant workshop scheduled today at 6 p.m.  WVTM 13
  • Tomorrow, the Birmingham Museum of Art will open Monet to Matisse—an exhibit featuring over 100 masterpieces by French modern artists as part of the museum’s 75th anniversary celebration—running until May 24.  Bham Now
  • The Black Crowes and Whiskey Myers announced the Southern Hospitality Tour, which will stop in Birmingham on May 24 at Coca-Cola Amphitheater; fans who sign up for the artist pre-sale can unlock a new track (a pre-sale bonus) to enjoy.  ABC 33/40

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Officials suspended the Bessemer City Schools board in January for an indefinite period amid governance issues, including cancelled meetings and budget delays. The state has guided the district (since 2024) and although a multi-year improvement plan was approved in 2025, control remains with state officials as they address long-standing challenges.  ABC 33/40

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jefferson County Health Department inspections found 11 restaurants, convenience stores, and food marts in Birmingham and nearby areas scored below 85 in January, citing issues like rat droppings & expired foods, with violations requiring a reinspection within 60 days.  AL.com
  • UAB performed the Southeast’s first robotic kidney transplant on January 15 in Birmingham. The procedure, led by surgeons Michael Hanaway and Muhammad Rabbani, used robotic instruments for minimally invasive surgery that reduced pain, shortened hospital stays & sped recovery for patients.  Yellowhammer News

  • No. 23 Alabama beat Missouri 90-64 on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa. Latrell Wrightsell scored 21 points by hitting seven 3s as Aiden Sherrell and Charles Bediako added key scores.  6 WBRC News
  • Registration is open at Ruffner Ball Park in Irondale for spring softball, baseball and t-ball (practice starts in March and games follow in April) as the upgraded facility at 301 Ruffner Road brings new turf fields, playgrounds and picnic pavilions to families.  Bham Now
