- ➤ A memorial honoring Claudette Colvin was held Saturday in Birmingham to celebrate the civil rights pioneer whose defiant act helped end bus segregation. Local speakers stressed her quiet courage and urged donations to the Claudette Colvin Foundation in her honor. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ On Jan. 6, the Jefferson County Commission approved an economic development agreement backing ACIPCO’s $793 million modernization project. The Birmingham-based expansion will switch to electric induction furnaces, reduce emissions, create 80 jobs, and boost local revenues (including $11.4 million for the county and $25 million for schools). - ➤ Mountain Brook City Council renamed the Mayor for the Day program as the Sarah C. Marsh Mayor for the Day on Monday, Jan. 19 to honor the eight-year-old who died in last year’s Camp Mystic flooding. The first recipient was her brother John, a fourth grader at Cherokee Bend Elementary. ABC 33/40

- ➤ Beltway Heating, Air and Plumbing in Hanover advises residents to disconnect hoses, drip faucets, and use surge protectors to avoid pipe bursts and appliance damage during the winter storm. - ➤ Researchers from UAB found that men had more advanced multiple myeloma at diagnosis than women based on analysis of 850 patients enrolled from 2009 to 2020.
