  • Birmingham business leader Robert Joiner will receive the 2026 Cornerstone Award from ABC of Alabama at the Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony in November.   • Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema will host its annual Bad Movie Marathon on Friday, Jan. 30 at its basement cinema in The Pizitz. Contestants must remain until 7 p.m. and record a confessional while watching a secret lineup of quirky movies to raise funds for local education programs.  Bham Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAB is updating its campus with new and renovated buildings to support research, learning, and patient care + community service. Completed projects include the Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building and a new parking deck, and a research and psychology building is set to finish in summer.  The Birmingham Times

  • Birmingham will see mostly rain today with 2-3 inches expected, though there is a chance for freezing rain or light snow Sunday as temperatures drop from the 50s.
