  • Emmy-award-winning Jane Lynch + Kate Flannery will perform their cabaret and comedy show at UAB Alys Stephens Center Jemison Concert Hall on Sunday, March 1 at 7 p.m., offering local fans a mix of humor, song and surprises.  Bham Now
  • Local filmmakers Katie Rogers and Brandon McCray will host a free screening of the award-winning documentary Tuxedo Junction: The Almost Lost Story Sunday, Jan. 18 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Virginia Samford Theatre—followed by a Q&A, book signing, and live jazz performance.  Bham Now

  • Alabama’s unemployment rate for November fell to 2.7% from 3.3% last year as employment hit a record 2,312,892 and average weekly wages climbed to $1,148.80, according to the Department of Labor. Prichard maintained the highest rate among major cities.  AL.com
  • The Economic Development Association of Alabama named Robin Ricks as its new executive director, effective January 20. She brings leadership expertise and policy clarity + experience from her role at Manufacture Alabama to boost economic development across the state.  Yellowhammer News

  • Kenyele Harrison of Kenetic Wellness uses Pilates to promote generational health in downtown Birmingham and community spots including CityWalk, Birmingham Museum of Art, and Ruffner Mountain.   • Shelby County’s Longleaf Recovery + Wellness Center has been approved by the state to operate its new inpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment facility. The 150-acre campus is slated to open early next year near Sterrett, about a 45-minute drive from downtown Birmingham.  Bham Now
  • A new law passed during the 2025 session creates the Alabama Rural Hospital Investment Program to help keep at-risk rural hospitals open. Starting this month, donors (including local contributors) may give directly or via a foundation to receive a tax credit for contributions made through Dec. 31.  6 WBRC News
